Linda McMahon's Audacious Campaign Body Slams Connecticut
If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Be forewarned; “You will know them by their deeds” and “Judge them by the company they keep.” Indeed birds of a feather flock together and as my magician friend says, “Don’t focus solely on the hand you’re being show, watch the other hand; closely.” Apparently, when it comes to being a genuine Republican, much can be said about Linda McMahon who is looking more and more like a she-wolf in lambs’ clothing.
Mrs. McMahon and her husband Vince have over 30 years experience in creating illusionary entertainment, scripting it, packaging it, marketing it and selling it to the consumer. It’s slick and exceedingly well done, so much so that they’ve succeeded in building a global entertainment and production company that generates over half a billion dollars annually in revenues with a bottom line after-tax net profit in excess of $45 million.
As a senatorial hopeful who must first secure the Republican Party nomination over politically more qualified candidates, such as state Sen. Sam Caligiuri of Waterbury, McMahon is saying and spinning all the right phrases and hitting the hot buttons fiscal conservatives want to hear. But does her past substantiate her message, or is she simply selling a hungry Republican flock that she’s the one to bring fiscal sanity and change to out-of-control government?
No one can argue that she and her husband haven’t been enormously successful in business even after, as she likes to point out, “we went bankrupt, and we were forced to start over from scratch. We lost our home and couldn’t get any credit, but we were able to rebuild our business with vision and hard work. But I don’t regret it. It was a real learning experience. I think we are much better people, and certainly became better business people as a result.” No doubt there are a lot of nutmeggers and Americans who can empathize with their experience and applaud their success.
McMahon likes to say, “Make no mistake: I’m a Republican,” but how many real Republicans would contribute even a dime to rabidly liberal Rahm Emanuel? There are other inconsistencies the she-wolf will try to sweep under the rug with an avalanche of slick hot button hitting direct mail brochures and pamphlets promoting herself as the fiscal conservative who will bring common sense change to Congress.
McMahon also appears to be one of those “do as I say, not as I do” people when it comes to a very spotty voting record in Connecticut. According to the Associated Press, state records show “McMahon voted twice in Connecticut, in the 2002 and 2008 general elections.” She is quick to defend her record saying, "I talk all the time about how important it is for people to vote. And it is. Yet, I haven't always been the best example myself. I regret it, I apologize, and I don't make any excuses for it." Although one might see some hypocrisy, the she-wolf’s campaign spokesman’s spin is her “admission that she failed to vote shows she will be a different kind of candidate. People are tired of politicians in Washington who make mistakes and refuse to accept responsibility. That is not the kind of candidate that Linda is going to be. When she makes a mistake, she'll own up to it, take responsibility." Records show state Sen. Sam Caligiuri of Waterbury has consistently voted in general elections.
McMahon also highlights the fact that RINO Governor Rell appointed her as a Board member of Connecticut State Board of Education. It will be interesting to read about McMahon's accomplishments or contributions to improving the state’s school system as a result of her being on the board.
It will also be interesting to understand the McMahon’s “Make no mistake: I’m a Republican” rational for putting Gov. Lowell Palmer Weicker, Jr. on the WWE Board of Directors. This guy’s a liar and traitor to most Connecticut Republicans; especially fiscal conservatives which McMahon claims to be.
Another thing I find odd is why Connecticut’s Catholic Sacred Heart University would put McMahon on their board when she supports the Republican Majority for Choice, a Political Action Committee in the United States dedicated to preserving legal access to abortion and supporting federal funding for all kinds of stem cell research, including Embryonic stem cell research. According to Wikipedia, “The Republican Majority for Choice was renamed from the Republican Pro-Choice Coalition in 2004 after an American Viewpoint Poll commissioned by Republicans for Choice found that 73% of Republicans believe that the decision to have an abortion should be made by a woman and her doctor and not by the government.”
The McMahon Media Machine is putting out some great campaign information and rhetoric that all fiscally conservative Republicans might want to embrace and use in their campaigns; this is good stuff and would cost a pretty penny to buy.
I have no doubts that Senator Sam Caligiuri can go head to head with the she-wolf on campaign rhetoric and promises and use his political experience as an advantage of legislative substance over business success and media style. Obviously, if McMahon is prepared to spend up to $50 million of her own wealth to buy her nomination, that’s a huge hurdle for any candidate to confront; but not impossible. As one of my compatriots pointed out, this isn’t the Connecticut general election. If it’s Sam versus the she-wolf, it will be decided in a Republican state primary and it will get down to who can turn out the vote.
As I am learning the more I speak with people across the state that are more politically knowledgeable than me, there’s a lot more grassroots support for a candidate like Caligiuri than meets the eye. The no longer trustworthy media may be enamored by the boldness and brashness of McMahon and the prospects of advertising dollars to be spent in her quest to become the Republican candidate against Dodd, and her significant war chest will surely help, but at the end of the day its people like me who have to be convinced. And I am forewarned.
